Thoughts on Fire
Program Notes:
Thoughts on Fire was written as a reflection on the different aspects of fire. The first movement “Burn” portrays the devastative qualities of fires. Bursts of sound tear through the orchestra in a rage, and moments of brutality are enforced throughout. The second movement “Embers” is a representation of dying embers found on a log perhaps in a fireplace or campfire. Throughout the movement the swells of someone blowing on the embers and sparks flying off can be heard. The final movement “Spark” is a fast and fun chain reaction of events. The movement starts with a single spark that sets off the entire movement.
